The Department of Transport has given the go-ahead to Galway County Council to sign the contract for the appointment of consultants to design a new road from Galway to Ros a Mhil and Screebe. The design stage of the proposed new R336 will cost 2.7 million euro and the Council has already set aside half a million euro in this year's budget for the project.Councillor Séan Ó Tuairisg says a new road to Ros a Mhil, costing about 100 million euro, is the only option to cater for the large volume of traffic travelling that direction.Concern had been expressed by people in Connemara regarding some proposed routes for the road. However, Councillor Ó Tuairisg says all plans for a new road to Ros a Mhil will be subject to public consultation.
