Consultants sought to progess Outer City Bypass
Galway Bay fm newsroom - The first steps towards an alternative way of getting an outer city bypass for Galway have been taken.
The County Council has advertised the tenders for consultants to plan the 24 kilometre bypass through the IROPI process.
The consultancy services required are civil engineering, enviornmental engineering and health and safety.
The Council has appointed habitat mapping consultants in the last 3 weeks, who will carry out work on the scheme over the summer.
Minister for Transport, Leo Varadkar lifted the embargo on spending for the project, which has allowed some work to proceed saying that the benefit -to-cost ratio of the bypass would be 6 to 1.
Last month the European Court of Justice ruled on an aspect of the proposal for the bypass in relation to the Habitats Directive, referring it back to the Supreme Court here.
Speaking to Galway Bay fm News, Galway West T.D Seán Kyne, says that a lot of the fundamental work has already been done through the original planning process.
