A large windfarm in Connemara won't be built because of the impact it could have on tourism in the area.

An Bord Pleanala has overturned permission to build a 27 wind turbine in the Casla area because of its proposed location.

The 27 wind turbine farm was to be located the townlands of Lettermuckoo, Muckanaghkillew and Derrynea.

However An Bord Pleanala states these areas are within an area of high value coastal tourism infrastructure and fisheries resource.

In making this decision, the board has rejected its own inspector’s recommendation as well as county planners decision to grant approval for the windfarm.
