Concerns have been raised that plans to revamp Ceannt Station will create access problems for people with disabilities.

The plans were presented by Head of Galway Transportation Unit Joe Tansey at a meeting of Galway City Council last evening.

They include three phases, the first of which will see a new wider footpath, a new paved courtyard area, a new taxi rank location and a new drop off area for bus and train passengers.

Cllr Frank Fahy said the removal of the taxi rank at the station would create serious problems for people with disabilities and that the proposed setdown point was not acceptable.

The new rank is proposed to serve Ceannt Station and the private Coach Station and will provide for up to 12 taxis.
