CONCERN OVER FUNDS FROM SALE OF BALLINASLOE HOSPITAL

Date Published: 27-Oct-2010
There's concern the money from the sale of an East Galway hospital will not go towards improving local mental health services.
Galway East Deputy Ulick Burke is claiming that money from the sale of St Brigid's hospital property will be returned to the Exchequer and spent on services around the country once it's sold.
He's claiming the money was originally meant to be spent on local mental health services.
A spokesperson for the Department of Health has confirmed that money from the sale of any Department property must be lodged with the Exchequer and the equivalent sum then given to the HSE to spend on high priority mental health projects.
