The Department of the Environment is being urged to abandon 'Design, Build and Operate' - type contracts for waste water treatment plants in the county.Councillor Seán Canney says he has concerns about the value of such contracts for schemes such as Headford, Dunmore, Leenaun and Kilkerrin. He says the Headford Sewer Treatment Plant costs half a million euro a year to operate.Other schemes in Dunmore and Leenaun will cost around 180 thousand euro to run.Councillor Canney says the traditional way of operating schemes in the county was much more value for money.Councillor Canney is calling for the 'Design, Build and Operate' method to be abolished.
