A proposal for a waste water treatment plant in the Draft County Development Plan 2009 to 2015 is causing controversy. The issue has been discussed by Councillors who've agreed to put the proposals on public display later this month [Aug] as part of the Draft Plan. It's understood the proposed plant would be located at lands around Oranmore, west of Athenry.County Manager, Martina Maloney told councillors that the Council is anxious to get the proposals off the ground as a "key piece of infrastructure".However Councillor Tomas Mannion says a sludge management plan for East Galway is needed before infrastructure is rolled out.Councillor Mannion says East Galway cannot become a dumping ground for the rest of the County.
