CONCERN ABOUT NEW TOWN PLANNED FOR ORANMORE AREA

A new town in the Oranmore area could have a detrimental effect on other towns and villages in East Galway.That's according to Councillor Tomas Mannion who is concerned about plans in the Draft County Development Plan to create a town called Garraun near Oranmore.The Garraun settlement would be created along the same lines as Ardaun which has already been mooted for the Doughiska / City area.Garraun would be on the Oranmore side of the railway track and along with Tuam would become a transportation hub, with a new railway station and park n' ride facilities.Councillor Mannion says while he's not against development, the idea of Garraun has to be looked at cautiously.
