Galway County Councillor Tiernan Walsh has described as 'disappointing' the decision to close the Ulster Bank branch in Glenamaddy branch in May.

It's part of the branch footprint review which will see five banks and six sub-offices close in the Republic of Ireland.

These include other branches in Cavan, Westmeath, Offaly, Mayo and Kildare.

Customers from the Gleanamaddy branch will have their accounts transferred to Tuam.

Councillor Tiernan Walsh, who lives in Glenamaddy, says the bank closure is a real blow for the community and doesn't look likely to be reversed
