CLONBOO MEETING FOR GALWAY RAISED BOG OWNERS

A meeting is to be held in Clonboo this evening for Galway bog owners affected by the turf cutting ban.

The gathering is organised by the Turf Cutters and Contractors Association ahead of a national protest scheduled to take place outside the Dail on Wednesday.

The demonstration will coincide with a private members motion tabled by Roscommon/South Leitrim TD Luke Ming Flanagan.

12 bog complexes across County Galway are affected by an EU directive which prevents cutting on special areas of conservation.

This evening's meeting takes place in Regans of Clonboo at 8.
