CLLRS REJECT SHANTALLA PARK RE-ZONE PLAN

Date Published: 21-Dec-2011
Controversial proposals to rezone parts of Shantalla Neighbourhood Park and Menlo Park in the city have been rejected.
City councillors were angered by City Council management proposals to rezone one and a half acres through Shantalla park to facilitate a through-road for UHG.
The rezoning proposals were put forward to facilitate new signalised junctions at the Browne roundabout beside UHG and the Kirwan roundabout at the Menlo Park Hotel.
The Planning Special Policy Committee this week rejected the plan and called on the council to go back to the drawing board and look at viable alternatives.
Cllr Colette Connolly says the HSE should allow access through it's lands onto the new junction at Breastcheck instead of forcing the council to rezone park lands.
