Date Published: 19-Dec-2007
A county councillor has slammed the lack of money spent on regional roads in the county. Independent Cllr Willie Burke was commenting on this week's draft council budget for 2008 which revealed that 4 million euro of this year's road budget wasn't spent. County Manager Martina Moloney told councillors 66 million euro was allocated for roads this year, but the actual amount spent on roads is estimated to be in the region of 62 million euro. The council plans to increase their contribution towards non-national roads by just 5 per cent next year because of rising water services costs and other demands. Cllr Burke says some of the county roads in the Loughrea/Portumna area are in a disgraceful condition
