There are calls for transparency on future plans for a council recycling centre in Tuam.

Councillor Michael Connolly claims the council is currently assessing private tenders for a takeover of the centre on the Tuam to Athenry road.

People from up to a 20 mile radius currently use the facility as a free drop off point for old tv's, fridges cookers and other electrical goods.

However there are fears that if private operators get involved there could be a charge for recycling items.

Galway County Council was unavailable for comment when contacted by Galway Bay FM News.

Councillor Michael Connolly says the public need to be made aware of any changes to the current system
