CLAIMS OF COVER-UP IN REPORT INTO GALWAY BROTHERS OF CHARITY ABUSE

Date Published: 03-Feb-2009
There are concerns that there may be a 'cover-up' regarding an investigation into the delay in completing a report into allegations of child sex abuse at the Brothers of Charity in Galway. The McCoy report dealt with allegations of physical and sexual abuse of 21 residents at Brothers of Charity facilities in Galway. The McCoy report took eight years to complete and questions were raised about such a delay. In April 2008, the Minister for Health, Mary Harney appointed John Hynes to conduct a review into the delay in completing the McCoy report. This second report, the Hynes Report, was completed last October, but has not been published yet.Fine Gael spokesperson on Children, Deputy Alan Shatter, told Galway Bay fm News that he feels there is now a cover up.
