CITY RALLY AGAINST NEW LOWER RENT THRESHOLDS

A major rally against new lower rent thresholds for social welfare recipients is to take place in the city tomorrow [Thurs Jun 7].

The event is led by the newly formed campaign group "Reverse the Rent Cap Galway".

The changes to the rent supplement regulations aim to achieve 22 million euro in governement savings.

However Galway West Senator Trevor O'Clochartaigh of the new group says Galway families are struggling to renegotiate with landlords to meet the new terms.

Tomorrow's rally takes place in the Harbour Hotel at 8.
