CITY MEETING TO DISCUSS RENT THRESHOLD ISSUES

Date Published: 30-May-2012
The new lower rent threshold does not correlate with the average price of property in Galway city.
That's according to Galway West Senator Trevor O Clochartaigh.
He's to address a campaign on the reduction in rent supplement for social welfare recipients in the city on Friday.
The event is organised by Sinn Fein and aims to examine the challenges faced by families unable to find alternative accommodation within the new rent contraints.
The meeting takes place in the Clybaun Hotel in Knocknacarra at 8 on Friday evening.
Speaking to Galway Bay fm news, Senator O'Clochartaigh says many Galway families fear they are facing eviction from their homes as landlords refuse to reduce rent to the lower thresholds.
