The mayor of Galway is being accused of bringing his office into disrepute by putting up election posters illegally.Green Party City Centre Candidate Máiréad Ní Chróinín is claiming Cllr Padraig Conneely has erected 6 posters on the Newcastle Road in the city despite a ban on election posters.Candidates are only legally permitted to put up posters from one minute past midnight tonight and there is a fine of 150 euro for each poster erected illegally. Máiréad Ní Chróinín says his actions contradict the Fine Gael party's claim to be a party of fairness by ignoring a law that is aimed at ensuring a level playing field for all election candidates.Responding, Mayor Conneely said it was disingenuous of the Green Party to throw stones when they had erected posters illegally in Dublin.
