City householders could get property tax rate cut
Galway Bay fm newsroom – Homeowners in the city could be in line for a property tax rate cut next year. According to today's Irish Independent, a briefing note prepared for the Economic Management Council identifies the City Council as one of about 14 Councils which have sufficient funds to cut the rate. However the tax cut, of 15 percent, could only be applied if there was no cut to central funding and Councils could manage their budgets. Meanwhile, the government is said to be considering freezing the valuation of houses for the property tax for five years.
