A city councillor is proposing that a specially designated park be set up for young drivers, rather than having them do stunts on public roads.Councillor Mary Leahy was responding to concerns from the public that many car parks and amenity areas in the city and suburbs were closed by Gardai over the weekend. This was due to an influx of 'boy racers' who were spectators at the Galway rally.Gardaí closed several areas including Silverstrand and the Dyke road carpark for a time, in a effort to curb groups gathering there to do stunts with their cars at the weekend.Councillor Leahy says if these car enthusiasts were given a designated area to perform stunts, then there would be less risk to the general public.
