City Council yet to collect 700 bins of former customers
Galway Bay fm newsroom - Galway City Council has yet to collect 700 bins of former customers.
Calls have been made to accelerate the collection process due to concerns that the bins are a nuisance to neighbours and to traffic flow.
300 customers left the City Council's refuse service in the month of May alone to move to other providers leaving 900 bins requiring collection.
500 households left the service in the first four months of the year.
A spokesperson for the city council says a backlog had been caused due to staff on sick leave and some transportation issues which have now been resolved.
The spokesperson adds that the local authority is working through the backlog and significant progress has been made.
