Galway city council is recommending that names of landlords in receipt of rent supplement be made public.

The proposal was initiated by councillor Colette Connolly who believes it will provide accountability in dealing with anti-social behaviour in housing estates.

At present, Gardaí have to go through a land registry to get contact details of landlords that have rented a property.

It's also being proposed to apply the second home levy to the 400 RAS properties registered in the city, which are currently exempt.

The amendments have been proposed to new national housing legislation, which will now go forward to Government for consideration.

Councillor Colette Connolly says these changes need to be made
