A minute's silence has been held at City Hall for the late Detective Garda Adrian Donohoe who was shot dead as part of a raid on a security van taking cash from the Lordship Credit Union in Co Louth at the weekend.
The money was part of a cash collection from four credit unions in the area, which Det Garda Donohoe and his colleague were escorting to be deposited in a bank in Dundalk.
Mayor Terry O’Flahery proposed the minute's silence which was held shortly after 4 in City Hall this afternoon where a special meeting is being held to discuss funding for a community centre in Doughiska.
The Mayor also proposed that a book of condolence is opened from tomorrow.
Meanwhile, Galway County Council has held a short adjournment of its monthly meeting as a mark of respect to Detective Donohue and also to Seamus Walsh of Glenamaddy, who was buried over the weekend, brother of long serving Cllr Tiernan Walsh.
