Galway city council has shunned presidential hopeful Senator David Norris

Councillors have refused to allow Senator Norris address them as part of his campaign to seek local authority nominations for the presidential election.

In a shock move, Mayor Hildegard Naughton cast the deciding vote against a motion to allow him address the chamber next September.

Earlier two women present to speak on Mary Davis' behalf were also refused permission to speak today.

After half an hour of debate, cllrs voted to allow Mary Davis address the council in September.
