Galway City Council says it expects to complete major repair works on a burst water main by this evening.

Over a hundred homes and some businesses are without tap water after the main burst in the Kingstown area in the early of this morning.

Areas affected include Kingston, Knocknacarra, Shagort Road, Ballymoneen Road and Bearna Road.

A section of road at Kingston gardens has been closed off to facilitate the repairs, which includes the removal of a 10 metre length of pipe.

City Councillor Catherine Connolly is advising motorists to expect delays as teams repair the burst water main
