CITY COUNCIL ERROR SEES HUNDREDS OF CASES STRUCK OUT OF COURT

Date Published: 18-Dec-2012
Galway City Council could face a legal bill of more than 40 thousand euro over an error at a Galway court last week, according to a city councillor.
It's understood, 349 traffic summonses were struck out of court because the City Council didn't correctly quote the relevant Traffic Act.
The cases had been brought over non-payment of traffic fines.
Councillor Padraig Conneely says that the Council, as the prosecuting authority, should have ensured they had all the correct information.
