CITY COUNCIL DELAYS WATER FILTER REPORT UNTIL DECEMBER

A report due on water filters for homes in Old Mervue affected by the lead contamination has been put back until next month. Galway city council has removed it from next week's agenda and deferred it until Monday December 15th. City manager Joe McGrath and Director of Services Ciaran Hayes told councillors Terry O'Flaherty, Brian Walsh and Declan McDonnell that two independent reports from Atkins Consultants and the EPA won't be ready until then. A demonstration by residents from Old Mervue outside the City Hall on Monday has been cancelled as a result. Cllr Terry O'Flaherty says officials have agreed to consider funding the water filters in Old Mervue IF the report is favourable.
