CITY COUNCIL DEFENDS DEMOLITION OF TOWNHOUSE

Date Published: 18-Jan-2013
Galway city council says the destruction of a derelict building in the city took place because it was in a dangerous condition and urgent intervention was needed.
Last month, the council instructed the joint receivers, responsible for number 19 Forster street, to demolish the property in a safe and controlled fashion.
This was completed last week.
Environmental watchdog An Taisce says the 19th century townhouse was worthy of protection.
