CITY COUNCIL CONSIDERS LEGAL ACTION OVER LAND GRAB

The city council is considering billing the people behind this weekend's illegal land grab in a city housing estate.A trench was dug and foundations laid for a wall around three quarters of an acre in the green space of An Sean Bhaile housing estate on the Doughiska road on Friday evening. On Saturday city council officials, backed up by the Gardai, removed the concrete blocks and placed boulders to block any further unauthorised construction work. The council is considering taking out a legal injunction against members of the travelling community in St Nicholas Park to prevent further illegal work on publicly-owned land. Cllr Mary Leahy says council officials are also considering their legal options regarding the cost of Saturday's operation.
