CITY CLLRS DEBATE ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY ON ILLEGAL PARKING

Mayor of Galway Terry O’Flaherty has suggested that the organisers of Galway Novena consider a park and ride of shuttle bus facility in the future.
She was speaking as Cllrs discussed a zero tolerance on illegal parking in the city.
Councillor Colette Connolly's motion that the council target illegal parking starting with disabled parking spaces was passed at a January meeting.
The issuing of tickets during the Novena caused lengthy debate in the chamber last evening.
When questioned, Director of Services Ciaran Hayes told Cllrs that he instructed wardens to go to the area following a considerable number of complaints received on illegal parking.
He stressed that there cannot be discretion with a zero tolerance policy.
