Galway city chamber is asking councillors to vote against the controversial N6 improvement scheme, which it claims will cost jobs in the retail sector.

Councillors are expected to vote on the upgrade of the route, which involves replacing roundabouts with signalised junctions, at next Monday's meeting.

Opposition to the 6 million euro improvement works, known as the 'Bóthar na dTreabh Multi-Modal Corridor Improvement Scheme', has intensified over the past few weeks.

MEP Jim Higgins, businesses and motorists are among many to raise concerns about creating a series of junctions similar to the one at Moneenageisha.

CEO of Galway chamber, Michael Coyle says the scheme would have a negative impact on the retail sector in Galway.
