CITY CAR TRADER CONVICTED FOR SALE OF CLOCKED CAR

Date Published: 08-Dec-2011
The National Consumer Agency has secured a conviction against a city trader for 'clocking' a second hand car by reducing the mileage before selling it.
Oleksandr Tabachuk, a former car salesman trading as Sasha Auto Sales and Repairs, Ballybane Industrial Estate appeared before Galway District Court for breaches of the Consumer Protection Act 2007.
The offences related to providing false information about a vehicle's mileage and also providing an NCT certificate with the false mileage reading on it.
A consumer purchased the vehicle, a second hand car, for €4,000 after being misled as to its true mileage.
Following Mr Tabachuk's conviction the NCA sought and was granted an adjournment to enable him to repay €4,000 to the consumer who will return the car. This matter will be before the Court again on the 7th of February.
