CITY CANNABIS SEIZURES INCREASE DUE TO MARKET FORCES

Date Published: 10-Oct-2012
The rate of cannabis seizures is increasing in the city due to market forces within the drugs trade.
That's according to Garda Chief Superintendent Michael O'Sullivan who said over 615 thousand euro worth of the drug has been seized in the first eight months of this year.
He said it is now seen as cheaper for criminal gangs to operate a grow-house than import drugs from abroad.
Cocaine was the next highest seizure rate from January to August this year with over 22 thousand euro worth of the drug discovered.
Speaking to Galway Bay fm news, the Garda Chief says the rate of cannabis seizures is also down to the efforts of the local drug task force
