CITY ARTHOUSE CINEMA ON TARGET FOR AUTUMN 2013

Date Published: 03-Jul-2012

The city arthouse cinema is on schedule to open in Autumn 2013 despite speculation of ongoing funding difficulties.

That's according to Project Organiser Lelia Doolin of Solas who says work is being progressed by contractor JJ Rhatigan at the city Docks site.

One lane of Dock Road has been closed for over a year to facilitate work on the project.

Galway East Deputy Michael Kitt has raised the issue with the Minister for Arts and has called on the government to release the 2.1 million euro which, he says, is necessary for the project to proceed.

However speaking on Galway Talks,Lelia Doolin says she's confident the necessary funding is not under threat and that the target 2013 deadline WILL be met.
