Galway Chamber of Commerce, which represents around 500 businesses in the city, has slammed the council's decision not to lower commercial rates. They argue that rate paying businesses, as well as many start up enterprises that have created jobs locally, are already struggling to be profitable.

The city council passed the 2012 budget at City Hall this week, and made the decision to keep commercial rates at this years levels of 65 euro and 46 cent.
