Cameras are to be placed at two council estates in County Galway after hundreds of thousands of euro worth of damage was caused to property.

A sub group of the county Joint Policing Committee has identified Bridge Court in Ahascragh and Gort Bride in Loughrea for a CCTV pilot scheme.

This weeks meeting heard that CCTV was a definate aid to tackling anti-social behaviour.

The Environment section is already using CCTV at 17 fixed sites around the County for monitoring litter, and information from cameras is held securely.

Gardaí are also investigating claims of damage to properties at council estates and will take relevant action.
