Galway Gardaí are advising residents to securely lock up their properties before leaving for the Christmas break.
The latest Garda statistics reveal that there were almost 450 burglaries from homes in the county so far this year.
In the city, there were over 400 burglaries from homes this year.
Crime prevention officer for Galway, Garda Pat Flanagan, is warning residents to take extra measures when leaving their homes.
