The case for a biogas and anaerobic digestion facility at a site in the Airglooney Business Park is being put forward at today's oral hearing in Tuam.
Bernard Hynes was granted permission for the controversial development last July, but several individuals and organisations are appealing the decision to An Bord Pleanala.
The case, which is chaired by an inspector from An Bord Pleanala, is today being heard in a packed room in the Ard Ri Hotel in Tuam.
Dr. Andrew Walsh the managing director at Celtic Bio- energy was on the design team for the project told the hearing that the facility will be constructed in accordance with all Irish and EU standards.
He explained that the proposed facility would have a 40 thousand tonne per anum capacity and the energy produced would be enough to power 1,746 homes in Tuam marketing the area as a green energy leader.
He added that a team of world class engineers from Germany and Ireland have been appointed to undertake the works.
Dr Brian Sheridan of Odour Ireland also gave a presentation stating that during operation of the proposed facility it is predicted no odour impact will be perceived by residential properties in the vicinity of the facility operations.
