Canadian TV personality and travel writer Frank Greco has been visiting Galway to film for his popular show ‘The Travel Guy’, as a guest of Tourism Ireland in Toronto.

The special Ireland episode, which will be seen in millions of households in Canada and elsewhere around the world, will include footage of many of our top visitor attractions.

‘The Travel Guy’ series is aired in about 100 countries on The Travel Channel International – across Canada, the US, Europe, Africa, parts of Asia including Hong Kong, Israel and the Middle East .

The crew filmed oyster-shucking at Kelly Oysters and at Moran’s Oyster Cottage, in Kilcolgan. Afterwards, they enjoyed a walking tour of Galway city and an overnight stay in the Park House Hotel. The next day, they filmed on Inis Mór and visited Derrigimlagh Bog in Connemara. They also stayed at Abbeyglen Castle Hotel.

‘The Travel Guy’ series is broadcast on many networks across the world including Discovery World HD (Canada), the Back9 Lifestyle Network (United States), Asia Television Network, Japan Television and U7 (Russia) – reaching millions of potential holidaymakers for Ireland.

Dana Welch, Tourism Ireland’s manager for Canada, said: “We are delighted that Frank Greco has chosen to film in Ireland, giving potential visitors in Canada and elsewhere around the world a flavour of a holiday here.

“The publicity value of a TV programme such as this is incalculable. It is an excellent way of raising the profile of Ireland as a superb holiday destination to a mass audience.”

2014 is set to be another record year for tourism from North America. According to the latest CSO figures, visitor numbers from the US and Canada have grown by +15% for January to November this year, more than 163,000 additional visitors compared with the same eleven-month period in 2013.
