CALLS FOR TASKFORCE TO DEAL WITH TRAVELLER FIGHTS AT UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL

There are calls for a task group to be set up to handle frought situations between the Travelling Community and health staff at University Hospital Galway. It follows a fracas at the hospital yesterday involving a youth who lost an eye during a row in Castlebar. Cllr Donal Lyons, who had family members in hospital at the time, is claiming up to 30 people ran amok in the hospital and were abusive to staff. Galway Gardai has confirmed two youths involved in a row in Castlebar were transferred from Castlebar General Hospital to UHG for treatment. Margaret O'Riada of the Galway Traveller Movement is calling for a task force to be set up between UHG and the Traveller health forum to deal with such situations. She's admitted it's unacceptable.
