Call to tackle ambulance delays at Galway public hospitals

Galway Bay fm newsroom – 80 percent of ambulances operating from UHG were delayed by over 20 minutes in April. That's according to figures obtained by Roscommon Independent TD Denis Naughten. The report published by the National Ambulance Service shows that most ambulance crews nationally waited longer than the HSE target of 20 minutes to hand over patients. Cork University Hospital was shown to have the longest wait times – with 89 percent of ambulances delayed longer than 20 minutes. The data also shows that at Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe, 19 percent of ambulances were delayed for more than an hour. Denis Naughten, TD for Roscommon – South Leitrim, says we need to properly resource our ambulance service.
