CALL TO PREVENT CLOSURE OF CITY REFUGEE SUPPORT GROUP

Galway West Senator Trevor O' Clochartaigh is calling on the government to prevent the winding down of city refugee support services.

Galway Refugee Support Group which is based on the Headford Road is set to close its door next week due to a funding shortfall.

The group was supported on a 50/50 basis by the European Refugee Fund, but this funding stream is being discontinued until 2014.

Senator Trevor O Clochartaigh has raised the matter in the Seanad and says the closure would be disastrous for a very vulnerable community group.
