CALL TO BAN ANIMAL ACT CIRCUSES IN THE CITY
Date Published: 15-Mar-2012
An animal rights group is calling on Galway city councillors to support a ban on animal act circuses in the city.
ARAN, Animal Rights Action Network is making the plea in advance of a planned protest on the Headford Road this Sunday where Duffy's circus will be located.
City Cllr Terry O' Flaherty said that perhaps now is the time for all circuses to consider operating without the use of animals.
She says keeping animals in cages is not natural and they should be left to live freely in their own environment.
Speaking to Galway Bay fm news, John Carmody of the ARAN group says Saturday's protest is part of a national campaign.
He says motions pushing for legislation to ban animal act circuses have already been passed by other local authorities.
