Diabetes Ireland is calling on the HSE to address what it describes as the urgent capacity imbalance for insulin pump treatment in Galway.

The group says there is a lack of adequate services at Galway University Hospital to treat children and adolescents with type 1 diabetes.

The therapy is used to reduce the long-term risks and complications associated with the auto-immune condition.

Health Promotion and Research Manager with Diabetes Ireland Dr Anna Clarke says the lack of service is due to an urgent need for paediatric posts.

Speaking to Galway Bay fm news, she says promised increases in diabetes nursing and dietician support is still being awaited in Galway.
