Canney 'ready to enter a government'

As the dust has settled on the Galway East count, it has emerged that new TD Sean Canney from Belclare has no difficulty in entering negotiations with a party that is willing to form a government. The independent TD was elected in the constituency along with Anne Rabbitte of Fianna Fail and Fine Gael’s Ciaran Cannon. He is one of two new faces to be elected in the constituency. Canney contested the general election back in 2011 but was unsuccessful but on this occasion he topped the poll. He said that he wanted to have an influence in the way the country is run and would be willing to engage with parties when it comes to the formation of the next government. Canney is closely associated with Deputy Mick Fitzmaurice who was elected in the new Roscommon-Galway constituency and he too has said that he doesn’t want to be a TD with no influence
