A Ballinasloe photographer has raised concerns that changes in the production of driving licences later this year will present a huge inconvenience to rural dwellers.

From September, motorists will no longer be permitted to supply a picture taken in a local pharmacy or by a local photographer within their driving licence application.

From next Saturday(Jan 19), all new driving licences and learner permits will be in credit card-sized format as part of an EU Directive.

Motor Taxation Offices will continue to deliver the service up to September at which time the RSA will start to deliver the service through the new National Driver Licence Service (NDLS).

Ballinasloe Photographer Gerry Stronge says the September changes will have a considerable impact on the photographic industry and will also be a huge inconvenience for rural households.
