Bah, humbug! Council orders removal of Christmas trees

Decorative Christmas trees placed outside the two street frontages of the Brown Thomas store last week have had to be removed from one of them.
The ornamental trees will still survive on the William Street side of the famous retail outlet but they have been removed from the Eglinton Street side of the store.
It is understood that there were a number of complaints that the artificial trees were causing an obstruction along the pathway at Eglinton Street, especially for mothers with buggies and prams – the trees had been placed tightly against the wall of the shop.
A spokesman for the City Council said that decorative trees that had been placed on the footpaths on the Eglinton Street side of the building had been taken away.
“Brown Thomas applied for a licence to retain the ornamental trees on their William Street frontage and this was granted by the City Council.
“The pathway along Eglinton Street runs alongside a busy route for traffic but the Brown Thomas frontage onto William Street is in a pedestrianised area,” said the City Council spokesman.
A spokesperson for Brown Thomas could not be contacted for a comment on the matter.
