Ashford Castle 50 million euro expansion plan progresses
Galway Bay fm newsroom – Ashford Castle on the Galway-Mayo border has been granted approval for a new entertainment space. Galway County Council has granted planning permission for works at the castle hotel which is a protected structure. The work will involve refurbishing a storage room in the courtyard to make it into a security room. The cellar at Ashford Castle will also be refurbished to transform it into an entertainment space. Council planners have attached 6 conditions to the development. One condition stipulates that the works must be monitored by an architect with conservation expertise to protect its architectural heritage. General Manager Niall Rochford says it's all part of a wider plan to refurbish the building at a cost of 50 million euro over the past two years.
