Appeals Board overturns City Council decision on apartments
Galway Bay fm newsroom - An Bord Pleanála has overturned a decision of the City Council to allow a house at College road be converted to apartments.
Permission was originally granted for 3 new apartments at 134 College road with conditions attached. The decision to allow the conversion of a house to apartments at College Road was appealed by two separate parties. One argued that the design, scale and additional height of the building would be an overdevelopment of the site.Another argued that the plans were an attempt to maximise development on a restricted site and that the traffic impact would be significant. An Bord Pleanála has decided that the apartment development at College Road would be in conflict with neighbouring buildings. The Board also states that the proposal to locate balconies on the eastern side of the building would overlook neighbouring properties. An Bord Pleanála has refused to allow the apartments be built stating that it would be an over-development of the College Road site.
