Plans to build a new convenience store and print and copy centre in Lower Newcastle have been shelved by An Bord Pleanála.The controversial plans caused residents to object several times but now the appeals board has taken their views on board. After a long battle A and D Goulding of Silverstrand House on Barna Road were told in April that they could build a convenience store in Newcastle. It was to include an outside eating area, print and copy centre and 3 apartments. But local residents were so opposed to the plans they appealed the decision to An Bord Pleanála and have been successful. The appeals board has ruled that the development would have an overbearing impact on nearby properties and would mean the site would be overdeveloped.
