The owner of an Athenry filling station which was targetted by thieves this weekend has appealed for the public's help in finding a stolen camera recording device.
The incident took place at Duane's Filling Station, Kiltulla, Athenry sometime before 2am yesterday.
The raiders, who were wearing balaclavas, are understood to have made off with cigarettes and other goods after being disturbed and confronted by the owner.
Owner Frank Duane says the culprits also made off with important recording equipment which is linked to 20 cameras on the premises.
Speaking on Galway Talks, the local man who is also recovering from cancer, has spoken of his shock and trauma after observing the raiders on the business forecourts.
Meanwhile, an incident room has also been set up in relation to a separate break in at Gullane's Service Station in Cloon, about two miles from Gort, on the Loughrea Road.
It took place at 1.15 yesterday morning and gardai are investigating the possibility that both incidents could be linked.
